This machine has a lever and a pulley component. The pulley is the black wheel/knob that has a black rope running around it, and connects to the lever (headrest/gray metal bars with the attached cushion) so that when you apply effort/force to the headrest, you can indirectly move the load of the weights by moving the load on the end of the lever (which is applied by tension from the pulley's rope), which in turn moves the weights on the other side of the pulley.

Bicep Exercise Machine- Pulley and Lever
This piece of workout equipment combines a pulley with a lever. The pulley changes the direction of the force and is integrated into a lever mechanism causing a change in where the user feels the resistance of the machine as he/she pulls in the lever, working out specific areas of muscle in the arm.

Pulley by Colin Blackmon
The pulley on the cable machine in Gregory Gym in the weight room. Hopefully the guy I took a picture of isn't worried about his image all over the internet. You are able to see the cable being strung under the pulley as the pulley reaches around to pull the weights up for a strenuous arm/back/shoulder workout.
